Optimal matching analysis (OM) is a family of dissimilarity measures adapted to sequence data. Introduced in the social sciences in the 1980s by Andrew Abbott and colleagues, OM has been increasingly used in the social sciences since then to build empirical typologies of longitudinal data. In the field of time use research, OM can be used to study the timing of everyday activities. OM is available as a library (TraMineR) of R, a free and open source statistical package. At the end of the workshop, participants should be familial with OM and be able to apply it to their data using R. This workshop is led by Laurent Lesnard and Thibaut de Saint Pol.

    Program

    9:30 - 10: 30 Introduction to sequence analysis

    10:30 - 10:45 Coffee break

10:45 - 11:30 Introduction to R and to the TraMineR library

    11:30 - 12:30 Application on participants' data

Participation is free but attendance will be limited to 25 places.

All participants to the IATUR 2010 conference are invited to attend.
